Relic Entertainment, award winning developers of Homeworld, Dawn of War and the highest rated RTS of all time, Company of Heroes, is looking for an experienced and motivated SENIOR OPEN WORLD ENVIRONMENT ARTIST to join our pre-production team to help define and build a setting for Relic’s new IP. Experience freedom of creativity and know your contribution is valued and recognized - by the Relic team, and also by gamers and industry experts around the globe.

This job requires a broad set of skills including the ability to do basic concept work, contribute to and expand upon the current art direction, work collaboratively with level designers, build ground textures, create architectural/natural props and mentor new environment artists.

The Senior Artist position contributes at a very high level to the product and Relic as a whole. The Senior Artist should regularly be setting examples of communication, initiative, teamwork, and productivity while working to upgrade the skill and knowledge of the team and Art Department through mentoring, education, and direction.

CORE ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand and work within the designated art direction
  • Produce art within specified art budgets
  • Work with a minimal amount of direction
  • Grow the quality of art production on the team and throughout the company by supervising and mentoring junior artists, and providing solutions to art problems
  • Ensure the quality of the elements created
  • Provide active and on-going communication regarding the quality of the assets, game design, tools, pipelines and processes
  • Define the visual quality of a portion of a project (ex. Environments)
  • Integrate game design within the technical requirements relevant to assigned area of art
  • Provide solutions for complex or risky portions of the project

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree/diploma in one art discipline or equivalent experience (architecture, illustration, traditional painting, design, animation etc)
  • Exceptional portfolio demonstrating a proficiency in 2D and 3D art
  • 5-7 of equivalent experience as an Artist in the industry
  • At least one shipped open world game
  • 2-3 shipped games with at least one that’s AAA
  • Able to translate any drawing into a 3D asset
  • Advanced knowledge of 3D software (XSI, Max, Maya)
  • Proven ability to conceptualize, define and visually drive a portion of a project
  • Train and mentor fellow artists in newly developed techniques
